Chapter 1, Scene 1 — the cinematic frame
Before dawn, Claudio stood in the narrow kitchen of his mother’s house in northern Brazil with his bag at his feet, listening to the ceiling fan click through the humid air while his mother folded a clean shirt into the top of his suitcase and pretended her hands were steady. His younger sister hovered by the doorway with swollen eyes, still clutching the little keychain he had given her from a roadside market, and his father sat at the table in silence, tracing the rim of a chipped coffee cup as if the right words might appear there.

What the studio generated from
Realistic contemporary northern Brazil family kitchen before dawn, narrow interior with cracked tile floor, chipped sink, worn table and chairs, ceiling fan clicking overhead in humid air, suitcase open on the floor with a clean shirt being folded into it, Claudio standing tense and quiet, his mother leaning over the bag with careful hands, father seated at the table with a chipped coffee cup, younger sister in the doorway holding a small keychain, doorway hinting at a bedroom with a hammock and mosquito net beyond. Soft pre-dawn blue-gray light filters through the modest house, humid atmosphere, intimate handheld-feeling composition, natural clutter and lived-in details, emotional but restrained farewell, realistic Brazilian clothing and home objects, no modern appliances or luxury decor.
